Originally from the Texas Hill Country, Emma has been tattooing all over the southwest for 11 years. Her private studio is located in the historic Old Colorado City neighborhood of Colorado Springs, CO. Emma specializes in both black & gray and color tattoos with a focus on themes drawn from nature and history. G ently exfoliate area to be tattooed 24-48 hours before your session. this step should be skipped if within 24 hours of your appointment, as exfoliation can cause micro-abrasions in the skin.

Moisturize skin often in the days leading up to your tattoo.

Please do not shave the area. i will take the time during your session to shave you, to avoid any potential cuts. if you have very dense/long hair, you are welcome to clip the hair shorter using electric trimmers.

Arrive to your appointment clean, fed, hydrated, and comfortably dressed.

Leave the covering on for 2-12 hours (it should stay on if you are going to work, or to sleep in if you were tattooed in the evening). the tattoo will ooze a clear/ink-colored fluid for up to 24 hours.

Remove bandage with clean hands under warm running water to loosen any parts that may be stuck to the bandage.

Gently wash your tattoo with liquid, unscented soap using your fingertips and hot water until slimy plasma layer is gone. after washing, air dry your tattoo until there is no water on or in the wound.

Moisturize with a thin layer of unscented lotion or balm. repeat this process twice a day until your tattoo is finished peeling and fully healed.

The area will burn for a few days, then it will dry and begin to flake. please do not pick at, scrub, scratch or shave your tattoo during any point in healing. do not soak your tattoo underwater, such as in the swimming pool or bathtub. tattoos on the legs may throb or swell more than other areas. you may also experience bruising on thin skin or if you were tattooed over bone. direct sunlight on the fresh tattoo should be avoided by covering with clean clothing (no sunscreen until after healing is complete)

After your appointment, your artist will apply your first application of derm shield. it is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage.

After 24 hours, remove your initial bandage. gently clean and air dry the tattoo and surrounding area, ensuring there is no soap or any residue on the skin. with clean hands, remove derm shield from the sterile pouch. cut the derm shield to cover tattooed area plus a 1-2 inch margin from the edge of the tattoo. peel off backing to expose adhesive side and position the derm shield over the tattoo with the adhesive side facing the skin. gently apply using light pressure, starting from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles. do not stretch the derm shield during application.

The second derm shield application should stay in place for 5-7 days. do not wear the bandage longer than one week. to remove your derm shield, gently peel from the edge, pulling it slowly back over itself. do not pull the bandage away from your tattoo.
